Here’s a classic: orange cake! A real explosion of flavors in the mouth, as this moist cake is flavored with orange zest, then soaked in a syrup made from the juice of the oranges!
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Baking Time: 20-25 minutes at 350°F (180°C)
Difficulty: easy
For: a 9-inch (24 cm) diameter mould
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup flour (175 g)
- 3/4 cup soft butter (175 g)
- 3/4 cup sugar (175 g)
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 sachet baking powder
- 4 blond oranges
- 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar (175 g)
Instructions
Wash the oranges and remove the zest. Squeeze the juice from one orange and reserve it with the zest for the cake batter.
Squeeze the juices from the other three oranges into a saucepan, add the powdered sugar and reduce over a low heat to a fairly liquid syrup. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
Melt butter over low heat. In the bowl of a food processor, combine the butter and sugar, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well between each addition.
Add the reserved orange zest and juice, then the sifted flour with baking powder.
Butter and flour a baking tin (rectangular or circular), pour in the mixture.
Bake for 20 minutes, then leave to cool.
Unmould the cake and place on a large shallow dish. Pour the orange syrup over the cake, spreading it evenly to soak it all in.
