Basel Läckerlis are gingerbread-like cookies made with honey, candied fruit and almonds.
The cookies are usually cut into small squares and then iced. They are named after the city where they originate, Basel, Switzerland.
Here, the recipe has been slightly modified from the original, but it is just as delicious!

For the dough
For the icing
Heat the honey in a saucepan over low heat.
In the bowl of a food processor, combine the flour, baking soda and spices. Pour in the honey a little at a time while mixing until you obtain a homogeneous paste.
Crush the hazelnuts, then add them to the dough with the orange zest and almond sticks.
Form a ball of dough and cover with cling film. Let rest in the fridge for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
Roll out the dough to about 0.40 inches (8 mm) thick.
Cut out squares or diamonds.
Bake 12 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the icing by whisking together the icing sugar and water.
As soon as they come out of the oven, brush the läckerlis with icing.
Let cool before tasting.
Store läckerlis in an airtight metal box.
